Good manners are a way of showing other people we have respect for them. It is the know how (Savoir Faire) to ensure that the people around us are as comfortable as possible so collectively we can celebrate the graciousness of living.
A favorite movie of ours and one very revealing scene. Parents are not passing the importance of manners on to their offspring because they never learned it themselves. Thanks for this post. It made our evening.
We will have to watch this flick sometime. Of course that would probably be after watching the zillion other movies in my recommended movie list!
And I agree completely with Cami, who commented above. It goes back to the 1970s when charm schools fell out of favor, divorces were on the rise and moms left the home to work. Society adapted, but many important values were left out in the cold.
I hope you are feeling better soon, by the way. See you soon. Maura
